Beginning Band Information:

All the band classes at Moore Square are a Year-Long elective.   Why be in band? There is no substitute or replacement for music-making as it relates to the positive growth and development of the human mind, body, and spirit. Participation in band avails the musician to the infinite journey of creative expression connecting to a language (music) that is understood, communicated, and appreciated by all of mankind around the globe. More importantly, MUSIC IS A PLACE FOR EVERYONE.

Beginning Band is for the student who has no experience reading music or playing an instrument.   Instrument opportunities are as follows: Flute, Clarinet Saxophone, Trumpet, and Trombone.  No prerequisite required.

Now that you have selected an instrument for band, where can I rent or purchase an instrument?

*You do not have to use Music and Arts.

WARNING!!!! Instrument shaped object. Don’t fall victim of the ISO. They are appealing because of their price ($100-$400) but they are not built to last and don’t sound as good. Reputable music companies do not usually sell or rent ISOs. If you have a question about an instrument, send an email to Mr. Byrd, kbyrd@wcpss.net

STAY CLEAR INEXPENSIVE INSTRUMENTS FROM AMAZON!   Examples: Clarinet, Flute, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone.
I already have an instrument.    Great!    Make sure is in working playable condition.     It can be frustrating trying to play a music instrument if it is broken.   Since we are virtual, my suggestion is to have it checked out at Music and Arts or Flying Squirrel Music or a repair center of your choice.
The textbook you will need to purchase for band:
Essential Elements for Band
(Online Resources Included)

You can purchase the textbook at Music and Arts, Amazon, Guitar Center, or vendor of your choice.  Make sure your book matches your instrument.
